Job descriptions

Hiring manager, recruiter, and the team weigh in on one draft.

Agent connect cuts a wish list down to five must-haves. The posting still goes to the system you already use.

Senior support engineer

Owner: Naomi Clarke. Company: Halcyra Payments. Draft posting.

Draft posting and interview kit for a senior support engineer at Halcyra Payments. The posting goes into the hiring system after this review. The list below started as a wish list of every tool the team has touched.

The work

  • Answer customer email about failed payouts, in writing, the same day the payout was supposed to leave.
  • Write a calm note when a payout incident is still open at the end of the shift. The note names what is still unknown, and then it stops. It does not guess at the payout, and it does not blame the merchant.
  • Overlap the queue on weekdays. The weekend pager is not this role, and the posting should not imply it is.

Requirements

The first draft listed on-call payments experience as a must-have.

Also required: Go, Kubernetes, a CS degree, a weekend pager, written answers, a calm incident note, SQL, a customer email, and weekday overlap with the queue.Five must-haves: written answers, a calm incident note, SQL basics, a customer email, and a weekday overlap with the queue.

Interview

  • One written exercise: a short reply to a merchant whose payout did not leave. That reply is the work sample. Do not add a whiteboard exercise or a second written task.
  • One conversation about a ticket that went wrong, and what the note should have said. Ask them to bring the note, not a slide. The conversation is about the note they already wrote.

We can teach the product. Judgment matters more than our stack, and the posting should say that without a second list of tools. Luis cuts the list. Naomi checks the five.

On-call payments experience

Evan Brooks

We can teach the product. On-call payments experience should not be one of these must-haves.

Naomi Clarke

Agreed. Judgment matters more than our stack.

Luis Romero

@agent the requirements list is a wish list, cut to five must-haves.

How job descriptions get reviewed today

A shared doc collects every nice-to-have until the list is a wish. The agent that drafted it is not in that doc when someone finally cuts.

Reviewing inside the applicant system is the publish step. It is a clumsy place to argue about five requirements, and the team is not always in that tool.

Five must-haves

Naomi Clarke asks her agent for a job description and interview kit for a senior support engineer at Halcyra Payments. She runs gander watch on hiring/senior-support-engineer.md and sends the link to Luis Romero and Evan Brooks.

Evan highlights a requirement for on-call payments experience and says the team can teach the product. Naomi replies that the must-have is support judgment, not a stack. Human thread.

Luis starts a new comment: "@agent the requirements list is a wish list, cut to five must-haves." Naomi's agent cuts the list, replies, and leaves the thread open so Evan can check the five. The posting goes into the hiring system after that.
